As per the analysis of the Information Geographies at the Oxford Internet Institute (http://geography.oii.ox.ac.uk/) Africa has a very
low representation in terms of digital local contents.
Last year during the first AIS conference the community requested AFRINIC to share the in-house Joomla! skills and know-how through workshops/tutorials on how to use the Joomla! CMS to develop local digital contents.
The Online Localised Content Development Workshop at AIS'14 is being organised by Duksh, who is the Web and Multimedia Team Lead at AFRINIC.
Duration of workshop
- 31 May to 2 June 2014 (3 days)
- 9 AM to 5 PM
Objectives of this track would be:
- Encouraging the creation of localised digital content development in Africa that would be Local + Mobile + Social ready
- Provide the basic technical skills to the targeted audiences on how to use the freely available open source Joomla! CMS
Targeted audiences would be:
- Non-technical audience consisting of citizens, journalist, educators and students from the African region.
Overall content of the programme would be as follows:
- Create a Joomla! website in hours with the help of easy-to-follow videos and workshop Instructor's guide.
- Go beyond a typical Joomla! site to make a website that meets the local needs.
- Learn how to secure, administrate, and fill your site with content.

Requirements
Please note that participants should bring their own laptop for practice purpose.
